Symposium on Undergraduate Research

American Physical Society - Division of Laser Science

The Symposium on Undergraduate Research is held in conjunction with the annual joint meeting of the Optical Society of America (OSA) and the Division of Laser Science of the American Physical Society (APS-DLS). The events have been organized by Professor Harold Metcalf at Stony Brook University, who was DLS chair for 2005-2006. The 2008 Symposium in Rochester, NY featured 33 oral and poster presentations in three afternoon sessions. A highlight of this event was the participants' box luncheon attended by Nobel laureates Charles Townes, Nicolaas Bloembergen and Steve Chu. Subsequent symposia have each had more than 40 participants.

The 2015 Symposium took place on Monday 19 October in San Jose, California. It has been described in a story by Emily Conover that will appear in APS-News.
