Michelle, Steph, Kristin Today we learned how many steps there are in a mile, and compared it to the steps we took in a yard. We learned that there are 5820 feet in a mile. We measured how much time it took to take five steps, which was roughly 2 and half seconds. We also compared it to Kristin's stride. We also learned about the oscilloscope, and how it measures frequencies of different types of sound waves. Michelle whistled, and we measured her whistle's frequency. We calculated that 2500 waves are in one second of Michelles whistle. We also talked about how the length of a persons leg affects the amount of steps you take. The shorter the leg, the more the steps. Also the longer the leg, the less the steps. Our favorite part was learning about the Mirage pig toy. It had 2 curved mirrors, depicting the view of the two pigs floating in the air. We also learned that light is faster than sound. If you see the lightning 5 seconds before you hear the thunder that means that it is one mile away. The lightning is one fifth of a mile away if you hear the thunder one second after the flash. We looked and calculated the amount of pixels in the computer screen. We also looked to see if there was a period in the waves of a tuning fork. We also looked at everyones voices. We also saw how heat and pressure can bend light in a laser setup.
